GRATALOUP

A PAINTER IN LOVE WITH HIS TOWN AND CHEVREUSE VALLEY

Film directed by Laurent PORTES

CHEVREUSE

A CITY RICH AND PROUD OF A PRESTIGIOUS PAST AND CONCERNED WITH ITS CONTEMPORARY HERITAGE

The GRATALOUP museum museum is hosted by the city of Chevreuse in the chapel of the SAINT SATURNIN PRIORY, the only surviving testimony of the priory built in Chevreuse in the 11th century. The chapel was renovated in 2011 by the architect Pascal Chovin, who was also in charge of the restoration of the Château de la Madeleine and the realization of the Maison du Parc.

In 2011, GRATALOUP  designed three contemporary stained glass windows. Realized in collaboration with the Ateliers Loire, master glassmakers in Chartres for more than three generations, the work of these stained glass windows is based on a contemporary research, characterized by the use of different materials and a new use of these - cut glasses, largely loose lead-free collages thus opening the overall vision -.

EVE is a symbolic and archetypal representation that has more to do with a "particulate" appearance that appears or disappears according to the light or the viewer’s location.

" AN ART THAT BELONGS TO  EVERYBODY AND NOBODY .... "

THE APPLE TREE is in front of EVE. Without the apple and in its monochromatic greenery, the light that crosses it reveals its foliage, of which no leaf is similar in its immateriality. It shows us nature in its infinite multiplicity. It is the tree of life and knowledge that guides or forbids final enlightenment.

THE HOURGLASS is the destiny of the human being who shows its reality. It is rooted in the vibrations of the celestial azure and its finality is realized in the terrestrial by a halo of light at the bottom of the hourglass.

The cultural project of the GRATALOUP museum is designed to show the artist’s plastic research in its various forms : paintings, objects, drawings and City Art.

The museum hosts two exhibitions a year. The exhibited artists, mostly from GRATALOUP generation, thus participate in the notoriety of the place and the dissemination of knowledge of contemporary art. The GRATALOUP museum  will also welcome other comtemporary artists guides by technical experimentation and invention.

New Contemporary Art center in the territory of the Regional National Park of the Chevreuse Valley, the place also proposes a multipurpose cultural offer through events (conferences, literary meetings, workshops, small musical groups etc.) thus contributing to making it alive and open to all.

Through participatory and collaborative operation with the city of Chevreuse and its cultural organizations, the Regional National Park of the Chevreuse Valley and its member cities, the GRATALOUP Museum contributes to the territory’s cultural outreach and innovation.
